The Princess Bride review

When I first heard that I was going to watch a movie for the class, I was a little irritated since I had to skip the first studying period. But the movie, turned our to be better than what I had been expecting. The movie 'Princess Bride' is about rescuing a kidnapped princess and finding the meaning of true love. It's genre was adventure, comedy, romance and fantasy.. For the characters, there is the Buttercup princess, Westley, the princess's true love.

The movie is like a story in a story. All of the things that are happening in the movie is in the book that the grandfather is reading to his sick grandson. In the beginning, it is just like a normal teen-romance fiction. But when the princess is Captured and there are things coming out like shrieking eels and cliffs of insanity, the story turns into a fantasy. When Westley rescued her with his identity hidden, he founds out that Buttercup is to marry the prince and starts to criticize how Buttercup was really wrong for not waiting for Westley.

Then, Buttercup finds out the kidnapper is actually Westley and they try to run away from the prince. But they get captured by the prince. So Buttercup was locked up in the castle, while Westley was being tortured by the prince. Because Buttercup was only looking for Westley, the prince gets really mad and takes 50 years off him using a torture machine, Which almost killed him. But Indigo and Fegic, who was trying to kidnap the princess in the first place, decides to help Westley in order to get rid of the prince. In the end, Buttercup marry Westley and Indigo kills the prince.

I think this is one of the typical fairy-tale stories. There is a couple who is deeply in love who gets separated either by a really sad reason, or and evil person. Then, they get a chance to meet again. That's when the obstacle for there love comes out. Even though all of the main characters overcome the obstacle somehow.

I am not really a fairy-tale type kind of person, so I don't really like happy endings. Most of the times, I prefer sad rather than happy. Also, I had this one character who has been annoying me for the whole movie. Even being the main character and one and only female in the movie, I really hated the princess. She is just like the stereotype of princess who is supposed to be weak and does nothing until some prince comes over to rescue her. I think this is really silly. In my opinion, all of this weak princesses are based on the idea that women are powerless. Of course females are mostly weaker than man with physical strength. Still, I like princesses who knows to find their own way out without prince-charming.

The thing I liked about this movie is that they really had filmed the movie in great places. I'm, not talking about the 'Fire Swamp' of 'Forest of Thieves . I like the place where Buttercup and Westley live in the beginning of the story. The location was beautiful and it was just the fairy tale place I had imagined. Also, I liked the little chats which the boy and his grandfather had during the little breaks in the story. Maybe it's mostly because I was thinking the boy was really lovely throughout the whole movie.

Overall, the movie was just fine. I think it is mostly because I don't prefer old movies, but I was a little annoyed by the old graphics and the blurry sounds, which I'll have to just go over since the technical things weren't developed so much. Well, I thought this movie is fine to watch when you are bored, but don't expect too much on it.
